HOW TO FOSTER DAY-OLD CHICKS

HOW TO FOSTER DAY-OLD CHICKS

The problem with day-old chicks.

I had a problem with day-old chicks: I used to buy them on the market, and they died one after another. My heart was bleeding when I saw that. One day, buying chicks, I entered into a conversation with a woman who sold them. She advised me to add sour milk to the chick food.

I began to do the way she told me: I buy chicks when there is fresh grass. I cut it into small pieces, add grain and sour milk. Sometimes I pour this milk into the drinking trough instead of water. I have a goat, so, I always have sour milk. In rural areas a lot of people have cows and goats. Let them without any fear do the way I do - and the chicks will survive. I have had no problems with them for several years already: I purchase 20-40 chicks and 2-4 chicks die only, the rest survive.

The guarantee of the survival of chicks is warmth, absence of drafts, fresh food, lighting...
