How many eggs are to be under a broody hen?   

The hen is a universal sitter. It can brood not only chickens. So, under a broody hen of a medium size in warm weather 15-17 hen eggs, 5-7 goose eggs, 9-11 duck or turkey eggs (their number must be odd) are laid. In cold weather under a broody hen two or three times less number of eggs is laid.
