Incubator housing

Incubator housing.

What to do with the old fridge.

For making the incubator housing I use the one of the old fridge. Throw out the remnants of the freezing chamber. It is necessary that the fridge closes well. 3 shelves are needed. On the first one install 3 light-reflecting plates made, for example, of can covers, each one against its own lamp.

Next - shelf for eggs.

Next - shelf for the rug.

Above there are three bulbs, below there is one. Why not vice versa? Remember what side the hen heats eggs at. Light reflectors are needed to heat eggs with warm air, not with the lamp light. In the upper cover drill from 10 to 15 openings with the diameter from 8 to 10 mm for the ventilation. If you going to grow chickens only, 5 openings will be enough.

Wrap the rods of the shelf for eggs with some heat-insulating material – court plaster or insulation tape. You can put cambric on the rods. Put a metal or plywood sheet on the lower shelf and on the sheet put a rag.

The sheet is necessary for the water from the rag not to fall onto the bulb and not to disable it. The lower bulb has several functions: it provides equal warming-up and the evaporation of moisture from the rag. The rag must be made of the material that absorbs moisture well, for example, a piece of an old bed-sheet.

To increase the humidity inside the incubator, you can put a can with water on the upper shelf. Don’t forget that the bulbs must be connected to the thermoregulator in parallel!
